Introduction

The DaaDgroup – Digital augmented architectural Design group – promotes activities and researches by means of the use of the most performative and innovative computer-related tools and methods in the fields of Architecture, Building and Construction.

To this end DaaDgroup disseminates CAAD values supporting an International Logo Contest related to the next  eCAADe conference – Education and Research in Computer Aided Architectural Design in Europe – and its spirit, open to all students from all over the world!

The Logo will be related to the main theme of the 35th International eCAADe Conference: “ShoCK!” – Sharing of Computable Knowledge – words that provide the keys to interpret the present and drive the future. The conference will take place in Rome at Sapienza University in 2017.

Article. 1 – Object

The contest pertains the logo for the 35th International eCAADe Conference “ShoCK!” which will take place in Rome at the Faculty of Civil and Industrial Engineering in 2017.

The logo must be inspired mainly by the theme of the Conference (http://2017.ecaade.org), by eCAADe’s (http://ecaade.org/) and Sapienza University’s (en.uniroma1.it/sapienza/about-us) spirits.
The contest will award the three best CAAD-inspired Logos of students (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD’s, or Specialization course) from all institutions all over the world!
English is the official language of the Contest.

Article. 2 – Important Dates

Registration will open on 1st September 2016 and close on 1st December 2016 1st June 2017 (Postponed) at 23:59 CET.

Article. 3 – The Jury

The International Jury is made up of a Committee of Honour: Antonino Saggio – President of Jury, Associate Professor of Digital Architectural Design of Sapienza University of Rome; Eleonora Fiorani – Vice-President, Professor in Anthropology of Polytechnic Milan, member of Scientific committee of “Trienniale” of Milan; Maria Argenti – Member, Full Professor in Architectural and Urban Planning Composition, Head Editor of Rassegna di Architettura e Urbanistica Journal); Henri Achten – eCAADe Council Member – Associate Professor at Czech Technical University in Prague in Computer Aided Architectural Design; Antonio Fioravanti – Member, CAAD Researcher of Sapienza University, Conference Chair.

Article. 4 – Evaluation criteria

The contest criteria include:

  • Coherence with the theme of the Conference (max 35 points);
  • Novelty and creativity (max 30 points);
  • Inspiration by eCAADe’s and Sapienza University’s spirits (max 20 points);
  • Logo distinguishing mark (max 15 points).

The evaluation process will have two phases: a first selection that identifies the best 100 logos and a second one that defines the winners and the honourable mentions.

Article. 5 – Intellectual property and exclusion conditions

Submitted Logos must be absolutely unpublished and developed expressly for the Contest. All the submitted Logos shall involve unpublished works that have not yet been manufactured, tested, marketed or distributed by third parties all over the world. None of the logos shall have received any other previous prize or award. Failing to comply with said requirements shall entail exclusion from the Contest.

Article. 6 – Prizes

The Jury of the contest will select three winners that will receive a cash prize and three honourable mentions as follows:

  • 1st place, 1000,00 € (one thousand/00 euros);
  • 2nd place,   600,00 € (six hundred/00 euros);
  • 3rd place,   300,00 € (three hundred/00 euros);
  • 1st honourable mention;
  • 2nd honourable mention;
  • 3rd honourable mention.

The first place winner of the Contest will have the logo published, with student’s credits, on Official Conference web pages and on conference publication.
The Awards Ceremony will take place on the last day of the 35th International eCAADe Conference. Participation in the Ceremony is not mandatory.

Article. 7 – Participant Conditions

The Contest is open to all students (Bachelor’s, Master’s, Ph.D.’s, or Specialization courses) worldwide.
All students may participate individually or in group without any limitation. Groups shall appoint a group leader as the only reference person to the organizer, for any relevant communication and for the prize.
Chair, Vice-Chairs, Organizing Committee Members, Jury Members and their relatives cannot participate in the Contest.

Article. 8 – Registration process and fee

Registration to the Contest entails:

  1. Downloading the Declaration of entitlement of copyright and read carefully the Contest Rules;
  2. Signing up your own account by clicking on Register button on the Registration page and following the Instructions;
  3. Paying the Contest fee;
  4. Uploading the following documents, in *.pdf file:
    • Signed Declaration of entitlement of copyright;
    • Identity card;
    • Copy of your student status condition;
    • Logo Image;
    • Logo Description.

The Contest fee is 20,00 € (twenty/00 euros) for each registration and cannot be refunded.

The last Logo overwrites the previous one.

Multiple submissions of same student are admitted with different registrations.

Article. 9 – Work

Each work must be in English and any submission must satisfy the following requirements:

  1. By 1st December 2016 1st June 2017 (Postponed) at 23:59, the files (logo and description) must be uploaded to the DaaDgroup website (https://daadgroup.org/);
  2. The Logo resolution must be 600dpi in .pdf format;
  3. The Logo must be included in a square of maximum 5,5×5,5 cm (2,165×2,165 inches);
  4. The Description of the logo must be 200 to 300 words, 300dpi in .pdf format.

Article. 10 – Identification and confidentially

The Contest is anonymous and no participant’s name must ever appear. The works submitted by students shall not be marked in any way that could identify the student. The works shall be free of any identifying or recognisable mark, and identified only by the alphanumeric code released after their registration on the website. Each student participating in the contest must register on the DaaDgroup website (https://daadgroup.org/) 1st September to 1st December 2016 1st June 2017 (Postponed).
All personal information regarding the student will be used only for contest purposes.

Article. 11 – Copyright

After the prizes are awarded, the winners and participants honourably mentioned grant the organizer the free right to use all the submitted materials.

Article. 12 – Participant’s obligations and personal data processing

By registering the Logo Contest each participant agrees:

  1. To fully accept the contents and conditions of the eCAADe 2017 Logo Contest Rules;
  2. To represent and guarantee the originality of his/her logo, his/her entitlement to intellectual property and copyright thereof and non-violation of any third party’s right, under the penalty of immediate exclusion from the contest;
  3. To accept all decisions by the eCAADe 2017 Logo Jury and acknowledge them as undisputable and final;
  4. To authorize – only prize-winning students – the photographic reproduction and publication of the submitted Logo, as well as the use of the registration documentation, whether fully or partially, directly or through third parties, under the condition that any use should occur within the scope of the contest, for the catalogue, for the communication activities and any press release and publication in hard-copy magazines and proceedings, and web magazine. Within said scope, nothing shall be due except the student’s credits.

Article. 13 – Materials: Indemnity and guarantee

The winners and participants honourably mentioned in the Contest shall be retained, stored and published on ecaade2017.uniroma1.it website for Conference-related purposes and shall be free for press review of the conference on a non-exclusive basis, free of charge and for unlimited time.
By participating in the Contest, the student certifies the organizer (https://daadgroup.org) that the submitted Logo and materials are not submitted to any other contest or used by any other company.

Article. 14 – Governing Law – Jurisdiction

Any disputes arising concerning the rules, regulations, terms and conditions of the contest, included in this document, are governed by, subject to, and construed exclusively in accordance with Italian law. The Court of Rome shall have jurisdiction.
